MAT: So just …does anyone not like trees? You know, it's like, you know, I've never had someone go, I hate trees. [Brian and Mat laugh]
BRIAN NARRATION: Here at Built: Commercial Real Estate's Leading Voices, we definitely don't hate trees. In fact, building doesn't just mean concrete and steel and floor plate measurements... it can also mean creating structures with nature in mind.
RACHAEL: You'll see that there are a lot of flowering species of plants and that was definitely intentional because it's just lovely. It's part of what creates a character.
But, Watershed is also a living building. And so the plants also support the bees. And so you'll see that there's kind of small pools of water that the bees are coming to.
BRIAN NARRATION: There's no greenwashing below the Aurora Bridge in Seattle, where a public-private partnership was created to better protect Lake Union. Everything is intentional, with measurable impact for commerce and nature, and therefore -- for us.
Kristyna in Omaha: Also, as we get to the end of this particular playground, with wood decking for kiddos to run up, run down, climb down....
BRIAN NARRATION:: Parks can also revive business, like here at the Riverfront in Omaha, where three parks are now one, creating a sort of green bridge between previously isolated parts of downtown.
Kristyna in Omaha: ...and then there's also ample caregiver seating, within there as well.
BRIAN NARRATION: I get it; I’m a dad. Caregivers can sit down after they've visited the skate ribbon, the boat launch, and the performance pavilion. I'm Brian Maughan, Chief Marketing and Innovation Officer at Fidelity National Financial.
And it is clear now, for all of us, parents, non-parents alike, that we need to be in nature for a better quality of life. And, we can feel that the planet is hotter and weather is more unpredictable. So what we build matters.
MAT: And I think our, our, our interaction with nature, that's hardwired that that's, that's not a choice. And nature in cities are so restorative to ourselves.
BRIAN: This is our sixth season of Built, and we are traveling the country, from Seattle to Tampa, to meet architects, developers, and scientists who have worked together to make commercial real estate protect, enhance, or interact with nature.
They'll share how they did it, so we can all do this going forward. It's good for us, and, after all, nobody hates trees. Join us September 4.
